For some time during the Golden Age of Hollywood, many films would have a “Gowns by” credit. Today, this credit would say “costume designer”.

Any time I see “Gowns by” at the beginning of a movie, I get excited. To me, “gowns by” instantly conjures a promise of glamour, beauty, and, most of all, meticulous craft.
